Presented in the early 2000s, the Renault key card changed how chauffeurs interact with their vehicles. Instead of inserting and turning a key, drivers just slide the card into a slot or keep it in their pocket for hands-free "Keyless Entry and Drive" systems.

Inside this thin plastic card lies an advanced piece of innovation:

• A Radio Frequency (RF) Transmitter: Communicates with the car's main locking system.
• A Transponder Chip: Contains a distinct electronic code that speaks to the engine control system (ECU). Without this code matching the car's computer, the engine will not start.
• An Emergency Mechanical Key: A small physical key concealed inside the card for manual door opening if the battery passes away.
